Question by : What should I be Feeling during a chest workout?
When ever I workout my chest, I feel strain in my biceps, and other muscles of the arm, but not my chest. I my form is good and I use a good amount of weight. I usually do a bunch of bench presses, then inclined bench presses, push ups, dumbbell fly’s, then dips. is there anything that I could be doing to better my workout? or should I just be more careful about my form and maybe add more weight.

Exercise. Lying on your back on the floor and lifting a can of corn in each hand while keeping your arms straight is a great way to build up the pecs. It’s also a good exercise for prevention of something called thoracic outlet syndrome.
As will all exercises regimes, see a Doctor before starting.

I want to do a good chest workout at home. I usually use freeweights, but I dont have those at home. I have a benchpress, but I don’t like to use to much weight because I dont have a spotter. What should I do to substitute those freeweight excercises, and what can I do with a benchpress, with less weight that I usually would use to do a regular bench press.

Pushup Pyramids.

These are a favorite among myself and my fellow Soldiers. They hurt, trust me! I wasn’t a believer until I tried it.

Basically you do one push up, and then come to your knees and do one military press (raising your arms about your head as if to “raise the roof”)… continue to 2 push ups, 2 presses, and so on and so forth up to 10, and then back down. Sounds easy enough, but it will kick your butt! The key is to not rest… even if it means going to your knees and doing “female” pushups.

You can also make the addition of weights to the military press part for extra umph.

I’m trying to get bigger a chest. I’ve been working out for almost 5 years now, but I can never get my chest bigger than I want. I’m a hard gainer. So I need to do heavy sets with low reps. But I would like to know how much chest workout I should do each week? I’m planning to workout on my chest 4 days a week. Is that too much? An well thoughtout advice would help alot. And please, no rude or irrelevent comments. This is only for serious gym rats. Thanks!!!

damn dawg, 4 days will be way to much. 2 times a week at the most. i would do a bunch of different exercises of chest during those days.

None in particular.

Eat only when hungry and not more than thrice a day. Nothing other than water in between. Include plenty of uncooked vegetables and fruits in each meal, preferably 50%. Chew each morsel at least 32 times to activate ur body to generate signals of hunger/fullness. Obey these signals.

Take light exercises and brisk walks for 30 min.regularly preferably twice a day.

U will achieve what u have not even dreamt and that too in a reasonable time. Do not be in a hurry.

This schedule will also be helpful in maintaining good healthy weight.

I seem to be doing workouts that work the outer portion of my chest (near the armpits) but was curious if there is a specific exercise that would work out the inner portion of my chest (near the sternum). Thanks!
I do two exercises (both with my back on an exercise ball)…standard shoulder wide bench press with free weights and then flies (palms facing each other) throughout the entire fly exercise? good? bad? could be doing better?

It would help if you gave me a list of what you’re currently doing. However, incline does help your upper and middle pecs. Incline bench and incline flye are good for this.

Additionally, lay on the bench and do a pec flye…how are you doing it? When you get to the very top of the movement, twist your wrists (do the flye with your palms facing away from you, then at the top of the movement, slowly twist so your palms are facing each other, return back to start, then rotate your palms outward again). This last little OOMPH is going to work your inner chest. Give this a shot.
